Patrol Squadron 48 (VP-48) was a United States Navy maritime patrol squadron established in 1944. Originally formed as VPB-115 during World War II, the unit flew anti-submarine and maritime reconnaissance missions in the Pacific theater, primarily operating the PB4Y-2 Privateer. Throughout the Cold War, VP-48 was based at various locations, including NAS Moffett Field, and transitioned to flying P-3 Orion aircraft, conducting surveillance, anti-submarine warfare, and reconnaissance missions worldwide. The squadron was decommissioned in 1991 as part of post-Cold War force reductions, concluding nearly five decades of distinguished service.

Patrol Squadron 91 (VP-91), known as the "Black Cats," was a U.S. Navy Reserve patrol squadron established on 1 November 1970 at Naval Air Station Moffett Field, California. The squadron operated the P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft, conducting anti-submarine warfare, reconnaissance, and maritime patrol missions primarily in the Pacific theater. VP-91 participated in numerous exercises and deployments throughout the Cold War, supporting both national defense and allied operations. The squadron was disestablished on 31 March 1999 as part of post-Cold War force reductions and the closure of NAS Moffett Field.

Patrol Squadron 31 (VP-31) was a U.S. Navy Fleet Replacement Squadron established on 30 June 1960 at Naval Air Station (NAS) North Island, California. Its primary mission was to train crews and maintenance personnel for patrol squadrons operating the P-2 Neptune, P-3 Orion, and other maritime patrol aircraft. VP-31 played a crucial role in preparing new aircrews for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and maritime reconnaissance missions throughout the Cold War and beyond. The squadron was disestablished on 1 November 1993 as part of Navy post-Cold War drawdowns.
