My name is Jesse Varela, I served the Air Force from Jan 1966 - Jan 1973. At Carswell from Jan 1967 to Dec 1967. Went to Thailand for 18 months, returned to US stationed at Mather from Jul 1969 - Jan 1973 as ECM Tech.

My father Ronald J. Martin was with SAC in some different roles through the 50s and 60s. Was with the 549th SMS at Offutt 58-64, also 32 ARS at Lockbourne 68-73. Retired E-6. I'm hoping to find anyone that knew him.

The government says I'm a Vietnam veteran. I did serve from '72-'80 but I did not see combat or serve in country. If serving between '65 and '75 classifies everyone as a Vietnam Vet then why the separation by the word era? Am I? Aren't I?

No you did not serve in the country. You are considered a Vietnam Era Veteran. Only those who were in the Country ARE Vietnam Vets and deserve the title.
