ABOUT 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion
- Origins: The 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (3rd LAR) was activated on 16 September 1983 at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC), Twentynine Palms, California.
- Nickname: The unit is known as the "Wolfpack," a moniker that reflects its aggressive reconnaissance and combat spirit.
- First Combat Deployment: 3rd LAR saw its first major combat action during Operation Desert Storm in 1991, conducting screening and reconnaissance missions ahead of the main Marine ground forces.
- Iraq War: The battalion participated in the 2003 invasion of Iraq, being among the first Marine units to cross into southern Iraq and advance toward Baghdad.
- Versatile Vehicles: The battalion is equipped with Light Armored Vehicles (LAV-25s), which provide speed, maneuverability, and firepower for reconnaissance missions.
