The 22nd Special Operations Squadron (22nd SOS), nicknamed the "Zorros," is a distinguished unit of the United States Air Force with a legacy dating back to World War II. Reactivated and redesignated several times, the squadron has performed a variety of specialized missions, including psychological warfare, unconventional warfare, and aerial refueling for special operations forces. During the Vietnam War, the 22nd SOS flew the famous AC-47 "Spooky" gunships, providing critical close air support and interdiction missions.
