USS Coronado (LCS-4) is an Independence-class littoral combat ship commissioned by the United States Navy on April 5, 2014. USS Dennis J. Buckley (DD-808) was a Gearing-class destroyer commissioned by the United States Navy in March 1945. Named in honor of Ensign Dennis J. Buckley, Jr., who was killed in action during the Battle of Savo Island in 1942, the ship saw service in the final months of World War II and participated in occupation duties in Japan. In the following decades, Dennis J. Buckley was active during the Korean War and took part in various Cold War operations, including NATO exercises and deployments to the Mediterranean and Far East. The destroyer was decommissioned in December 1973 and subsequently struck from the Naval Vessel Register.
