**Marine Detachment (MarDet), USS America (CVA/CV-66)** The Marine Detachment aboard USS America (CVA/CV-66) was established with the aircraft carrier’s commissioning in 1965. MarDet's primary duties included shipboard security, ceremonial functions, and providing a landing force capable of rapid deployment. During USS America’s service, MarDet Marines participated in major operations, including deployments to the Mediterranean and Vietnam War combat zones.
