U.S. Navy Military Retiree (1957 - 1987)
Enlisted Aug 30,1957 first ship was USS Vega AF-59, Crossed the line June 18, 1958. I got out November 4, 1960, and went home and tried to fine work, so I worked for my dad for 60 days it was the coldest winter in 40 years. I took the greyhound bus to T. I. CA enlisted again as BM3 and went to Tachikawa Japan to VR-7 Det A. There for 3 years and got married to an American girl and it been 63 years Jul 2. Transferred to the NMCB 10 on Guam 6 months and returned to the states had 2 months Military Training , then the Battalion was sent to Okinawa and mounted out to LST to ChuLai S. Vietnam to build a runway. Transferred NS Pensacola FL Port Services for 2 years made BM2. Transferred to SEAR Then to Da Nang S. Vietnam operating LCM-8s on the DMZ as the LPO. My boat got Damaged by underwater mine. Made BM1 and received the Bronze Star With Combat V. Transferred to the USS Samuel Gompers AD-37 Assigned as the LPO for 2nd Div. 2 years. Transferred to New construction USS Stein DE/FF-1065 3 years. Transferred to NTC ADCOM Made BMC. While there I was selected for the Warrant Officer program WO1. Transferred to the USS Thomaston LSD-28 Promoted to CWO2, 3 Years. Transferred to Naval Station Guam as the Port Service Officer and then the operation Officer promoted to CWO3, 2 years. Transferred to the USS Proteus AS-19 for 2 years, Transferred to Indian Island WA as the Bording Officer and Oil recovery Officer for 2 years promoted to CWO4. Transferred to the USS Camden AOE2 as the Ships Boatswain and the Safety officer 3 years and Retired 1 December 1987 CWO4
