USS TRUETT

• USS Truett (FF-1095) was a Knox-class frigate of the United States Navy, named in honor of Quincy Truett, a US Navy officer killed in action during World War II. • The ship was launched on 3 February 1973 and commissioned on 1 June 1974, serving during the latter years of the Cold War. • USS Truett was equipped with the latest anti-submarine warfare technology of its time, including the ASROC (Anti-Submarine Rocket) launcher and a helicopter hangar for the LAMPS (Light Airborne Multi-Purpose System) helicopter. • The ship's primary mission was to detect and track Soviet submarines in the Atlantic and Mediterranean, playing a crucial role in NATO operations. • In 1976, Truett participated in Operation Unitas XVII, a multinational naval exercise with South American navies, strengthening US ties with regional allies. • Truett was deployed multiple times to the Mediterranean Sea as part of the US Sixth Fleet, supporting peacekeeping and crisis response operations. • During the 1980s, USS Truett took part in numerous anti-drug operations in the Caribbean, intercepting vessels suspected of smuggling narcotics. • The ship earned the Navy Expeditionary Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal for her various deployments and missions. • Decommissioned on 30 June 1994, Truett was transferred to the Royal Thai Navy and renamed HTMS Phutthaloetla Naphalai (FFG-462), where she continued to serve for many years. • USS Truett is remembered for its dedicated crew and the role it played in advancing US naval capabilities during a pivotal era in global military history.
