About USS John F Kennedy

The USS John F. Kennedy is a Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier currently under construction for the United States Navy. It is the second ship of the class and named in honor of the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy. The aircraft carrier is set to be the most advanced and capable warship in the Navy's fleet, able to support a wide range of missions and operations. Once completed, the USS John F. Kennedy will join the ranks of the Navy's elite carrier strike group.

• USS John F Kennedy was the last conventionally powered aircraft carrier built for the United States Navy. • It was named after President John F Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963. • The ship was originally supposed to be named the USS America, but it was changed to honor President Kennedy after his assassination. • USS John F Kennedy was commissioned in 1968 and served until 2007. • During its service, the aircraft carrier participated in numerous military operations, including the Gulf War and the Kosovo War. • The ship was known for its iconic island structure, which included an inverted pyramid design on the island's forward edge. • USS John F Kennedy was once homeported in Mayport, Florida, before being moved to Norfolk, Virginia. • The aircraft carrier had a displacement of over 82,000 tons and a length of 1,050 feet. • USS John F Kennedy received numerous awards and commendations for its service, including a Navy Unit Commendation and a Meritorious Unit Commendation. • After its decommissioning in 2007, plans for turning the ship into a museum were considered, but ultimately it was sold for scrap in 2013.
