The USS Hunley was a submarine of the United States Navy that was commissioned in 1863 during the Civil War. It was the first submarine to successfully sink an enemy ship in combat, but tragically disappeared soon after completing its mission. The submarine was discovered in 1995 off the coast of South Carolina and is now on display at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center in Charleston. The USS Hunley is a significant historical artifact that serves as a reminder of the advancements in naval warfare during the Civil War era.
