• Newest Hobart-class Destroyer: HMAS Brisbane (DDG-41) is the third and final ship of the Hobart-class air warfare destroyers, commissioned into the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) on 27 October 2018. • Namesake Legacy: This is the third RAN ship to bear the name HMAS Brisbane, following a Town-class light cruiser (WWI & WWII) and a Perth-class guided missile destroyer (Vietnam War service). • Advanced Aegis Combat System: HMAS Brisbane is equipped with the sophisticated Aegis Combat System, enabling it to track and engage multiple aerial, surface, and subsurface threats simultaneously. • First Missile Firing: In September 2018, HMAS Brisbane successfully fired its first missiles as part of live weapons trials, demonstrating the capability of its Vertical Launch System. • International Exercises: Brisbane regularly participates in major multinational exercises such as RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific), Talisman Sabre, and Indo-Pacific Endeavour, strengthening alliances and interoperability. • Construction & Delays: The ship was built by ASC in Osborne, South Australia, but faced initial delays due to design and construction challenges, leading to a high-profile government review of the project. • Powerful Air Defence: Armed with SM-2 and Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles, the destroyer provides area air defence for the fleet, protecting both itself and allied ships from aircraft and missile threats. • Flagship Technology: HMAS Brisbane can operate MH-60R Seahawk helicopters and deploys advanced radar and electronic warfare systems, making it one of the most capable warships in the RAN. • First International Deployment: In 2019, HMAS Brisbane embarked on her first overseas deployment to the United States, where she conducted tests and exercises alongside the US Navy and other allies. • Crest & Motto: The ship's crest features a griffin and a trident, symbolizing vigilant strength at sea; its motto, "Audax et Fidelis" ("Bold and Faithful"), reflects both her fighting spirit and loyalty.
