The 3rd Battalion, 27th Marines (3/27) was activated in January 1966 as part of the 5th Marine Division during the Vietnam War. Deployed to Vietnam in 1968, the battalion participated in significant operations, including Operation Allen Brook and Operation Oklahoma Hills, distinguishing itself in intense combat around the Da Nang area. 3/27 earned a reputation for professionalism and valor, sustaining heavy casualties while inflicting significant losses on enemy forces. The battalion was deactivated in September 1969 as part of the post-war drawdown but remains honored in Marine Corps history for its service and sacrifice.

The 4th Force Service Support Group (4th FSSG) was a unit of the United States Marine Corps Reserve, established to provide combat service support to Marine Forces Reserve units. Activated in 1962, 4th FSSG was headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana, and comprised various subordinate units specializing in logistics, supply, maintenance, medical, and transportation. Throughout its history, the 4th FSSG played a vital role in supporting both training exercises and operational deployments, including mobilizations for Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2006, the unit was reorganized and redesignated as the 4th Marine Logistics Group (4th MLG), continuing its legacy of logistical excellence within the Marine Corps Reserve.

The 4th Marine Amphibious Brigade (4th MAB) was a specialized unit of the United States Marine Corps, originally activated during World War II and reactivated in the 1970s in response to increasing Cold War tensions. The brigade was tasked with rapid-response amphibious operations, particularly focused on NATO’s northern flank and the defense of Norway against possible Soviet aggression. Throughout the 1980s, the 4th MAB participated in numerous exercises and deployments, honing Arctic and cold-weather warfare capabilities. In 1988, the brigade was redesignated as the 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade (4th MEB), continuing its mission as a flexible, forward-deployed force ready for crises and contingencies.

Headquarters and Maintenance Squadron 16 (H&MS-16) was a United States Marine Corps aviation support unit established to provide logistics, maintenance, and administrative support to Marine Aircraft Group 16 (MAG-16). Activated during the Vietnam War, H&MS-16 played a crucial role at bases such as Marble Mountain Air Facility, supporting helicopter squadrons by ensuring aircraft readiness through maintenance and supply operations. The squadron’s efforts contributed significantly to the operational effectiveness of helicopter missions, including troop transport, medical evacuation, and logistical resupply. After the Vietnam War, H&MS-16 continued to support Marine aviation until it was eventually redesignated as part of the Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) reorganization.

HMH-362

HMH-362, known as the "Ugly Angels," was a United States Marine Corps heavy helicopter squadron established in 1952. The squadron initially flew the Sikorsky HRS and later transitioned to the CH-53 Sea Stallion family of helicopters. HMH-362 was the first Marine helicopter squadron to deploy to Vietnam in 1962, playing a significant role in support, transport, and medevac missions throughout the conflict. The unit continued to serve in various operations until it was deactivated in 2012 after 60 years of distinguished service.
