1:7th Marines

• 1/7th Marines was originally activated during World War II on November 1, 1940. • The regiment saw action in the Pacific theater during World War II, including the Battle of Guadalcanal. • 1/7th Marines received the Navy Unit Commendation for their actions at Peleliu in September 1944. • The regiment served in the Korean War, participating in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in 1950. • 1/7th Marines deployed to Vietnam in 1965 and conducted numerous combat operations during their time there. • The regiment was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for their actions at Dai Do in May 1968, where they faced heavy enemy resistance. • 1/7th Marines participated in Operation Desert Storm in 1991, providing artillery support during the liberation of Kuwait. • The regiment has been part of multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan in the War on Terror, conducting counterinsurgency operations. • 1/7th Marines is currently based at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms in California. • The regiment continues to train and deploy in support of U.S. military operations around the world.
