About 1:6TH MARINES

The 1/6TH MARINES, also known as the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, is a Marine Corps infantry battalion based out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. They are part of the 2nd Marine Division and are trained to conduct amphibious and expeditionary operations. The battalion has a rich history of service, having been activated during World War II and participating in numerous conflicts since then. They are known for their discipline, readiness, and professionalism in carrying out their missions.

Historical Facts

• 1/6th Marines was activated on September 26, 1917 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. • During World War II, the battalion participated in the battles of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. • 1/6th Marines was one of the first units to arrive in Korea in 1950 during the Korean War. • The battalion fought in the Vietnam War and was involved in the Battle of Hue City in 1968. • 1/6th Marines participated in Operation Desert Storm in 1991, where they played a crucial role in the liberation of Kuwait. • In 2004, the battalion served in Iraq and conducted operations in the Al Anbar province, including the Second Battle of Fallujah. • 1/6th Marines deployed to Afghanistan in 2009 and conducted numerous counter-insurgency operations in Helmand province. • In 2017, the battalion deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program to strengthen U.S. military presence in the region. • 1/6th Marines has received numerous awards for their service, including the Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, and the Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal. • The motto of 1/6th Marines is "Fidelity, Honor, Valor" - reflecting the unit's commitment to the Marine Corps values and traditions.
