USCGC DALLAS

• Commissioned in 1967: USCGC Dallas (WHEC-716) was commissioned on October 26, 1967, as a high endurance cutter of the Hamilton class. • Named after Alexander J. Dallas: The cutter was named in honor of Alexander James Dallas, the 6th Secretary of the Treasury, and his son, Commodore Alexander J. Dallas, USN. • Vietnam War Service: Dallas was deployed to Vietnam in 1971, where she performed naval gunfire support, interdicted enemy logistics, and rescued downed pilots. • Mariel Boatlift Operations: In 1980, Dallas played a crucial role during the Mariel Boatlift, helping rescue and process Cuban refugees seeking asylum in the United States. • Operation Able Manner: In the 1990s, Dallas participated in Operation Able Manner, interdicting Haitian migrants and providing humanitarian assistance. • Bosnian War Support (Operation Sharp Guard): In 1995, Dallas deployed to the Adriatic Sea to enforce UN sanctions against the former Yugoslavia, working alongside NATO and European navies. • Drug Interdiction Achievements: Dallas seized numerous drug shipments throughout her career, including a record 10 tons of cocaine in a single operation in 2007. • Hurricane Katrina Response: In 2005, Dallas was among the first Coast Guard units to respond to Hurricane Katrina, assisting in search and rescue and humanitarian relief. • Decommissioning and Transfer: Dallas was decommissioned on March 30, 2012, after 45 years of service, and was transferred to the Philippine Navy, where she was renamed BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PS-16). • Decorations and Honors: Throughout her service, Dallas earned numerous awards, including the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Service Medal, and multiple Coast Guard Unit Commendations.
