LORSTA San Mateo Point, located on San Clemente Island, California, was a United States Coast Guard Long Range Navigation (LORAN) station. Commissioned in 1972, it played a vital role in providing precise electronic navigation signals to both military and civilian vessels and aircraft operating along the U.S. West Coast and the eastern Pacific. The unit was an essential component of the LORAN-C chain, supporting maritime and national defense operations during the Cold War and beyond.
