• Origins: The 13th Corps Support Command (COSCOM) was first activated on 24 June 1965 at Fort Knox, Kentucky, as part of the U.S. Army’s growing logistical needs during the Vietnam War era. • Headquarters Company: HHC (Headquarters and Headquarters Company), 13th COSCOM provided command, control, and administrative support for the entire command, serving as the “nerve center” for all operations. • Vietnam Era Activation: While the unit was formed during the Vietnam era, 13th COSCOM did not deploy to Vietnam but played a critical role in supporting units that did, through stateside logistics and training. • Move to Texas: In 1968, the unit relocated to Fort Hood (now Fort Cavazos), Texas, where it would become a logistical powerhouse for the U.S. Army. • Gulf War Service: During Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm (1990-1991), elements of 13th COSCOM deployed to Southwest Asia, providing vital supply and transportation support. • Renaming and Transformation: In 2006, as part of Army modularity, the 13th COSCOM was redesignated as the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), reflecting a broader mission set. • Humanitarian Missions: The unit has participated in several humanitarian operations, including Hurricane Katrina relief in 2005, providing logistics, transportation, and supply distribution. • Decorations: The command and its headquarters company have earned multiple Meritorious Unit Commendations and Army Superior Unit Awards for excellence in logistics and support operations. • Symbolism: The 13th COSCOM’s distinctive unit insignia features a blue keystone and a golden arrow, symbolizing strength, support, and forward movement. • Legacy: Today, HHC 13th COSCOM’s lineage continues under the 13th ESC, maintaining a reputation for logistical excellence in both combat and peacetime missions around the globe.
