Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), 14th Combat Aviation Battalion (CAB), was a key aviation support unit within the Americal Division (23rd Infantry Division) during the Vietnam War. Activated in the 1960s, the 14th CAB provided command, control, and logistical support for a variety of helicopter units, including assault, reconnaissance, and medical evacuation missions. Its personnel and aircraft played a crucial role in supporting ground operations throughout I Corps Tactical Zone, particularly in areas like Chu Lai and Da Nang. The 14th CAB’s contributions significantly enhanced the mobility and effectiveness of the Americal Division until the unit’s redeployment and eventual inactivation following the drawdown of U.S. forces in Vietnam.
