Historical Facts

• In World War II, the 56th Field Artillery Command was activated on September 1, 1941. • The brigade was reactivated in Germany on November 1, 1953 as the 56th Armored Field Artillery Group. • During the Vietnam War, the 56th Artillery Group participated in combat operations in Southeast Asia. • The brigade was reorganized and redesignated as the 56th Field Artillery Brigade on October 16, 1986 at Fort Lewis, Washington. • During Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, the 56th Field Artillery Brigade provided artillery support to coalition forces in the Persian Gulf. • The brigade deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2001 to 2002. • In 2009, the brigade was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. • The 56th Field Artillery Brigade received the Valorous Unit Award for its actions in Operation Desert Storm in 1991. • The brigade's motto is "Strike Hard." • The HHB 56th FA Brigade is currently based at Fort Hood, Texas.
