Ft. Benjamin Harrison Administration

• Establishment: Fort Benjamin Harrison was established in 1906, named after the 23rd President of the United States, Benjamin Harrison, who was an Indianapolis native. • World War I Training Center: During World War I, the fort became one of the largest training sites for Army officers, training over 100,000 men. • Finance Center: In 1932, the Army Finance School relocated to Fort Benjamin Harrison, making it the primary center for military finance administration and training for decades. • Women's Army Corps: During World War II, Fort Benjamin Harrison was a major training center for the Women's Army Corps (WAC), hosting thousands of female soldiers. • Home of the Adjutant General School: The Adjutant General School, responsible for training Army administrative officers, called the fort home from 1951 to 1995. • Defense Finance and Accounting Service Headquarters: The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), the agency responsible for paying U.S. military personnel, was headquartered at the fort until 1995. • German POW Camp: During World War II, the fort housed a prisoner-of-war camp for captured German soldiers, who worked on local farms and infrastructure projects. • Presidential Visits: The fort hosted several U.S. presidents, including Franklin D.
