Finance Cholon Saigon was a military financial unit established by the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) during the Vietnam War. Located in the Cholon district of Saigon, it was responsible for managing payroll, budgeting, and financial logistics for military personnel stationed in the greater Saigon area. The unit played a crucial role in ensuring operational readiness by efficiently distributing salaries and managing funds for supplies and operations. After the Fall of Saigon in 1975, Finance Cholon Saigon was disbanded along with other ARVN administrative structures.

Key Role During Tet Offensive: During the 1968 Tet Offensive, the Finance Cholon Saigon office worked under extreme conditions to ensure troops received necessary resources despite attacks and civil unrest.
Collaboration with Allies: The unit often coordinated with American advisors and financial officers, leveraging US support and guidance for military budgeting and anti-fraud measures.
Anti-Corruption Efforts: Given the risks of corruption in wartime, the finance officers implemented strict documentation and auditing processes to minimize financial losses and maintain accountability.
Evacuation in 1975: As North Vietnamese forces advanced in April 1975, many finance personnel destroyed sensitive documents and attempted to evacuate with their families, some escaping by air or sea.
Legacy in Diaspora: After the fall of Saigon, former Finance Cholon Saigon officers and staff helped establish Vietnamese veterans’ associations in the US, Canada, and Australia, preserving their history and camaraderie.
Historic Building: The original finance office building in Cholon reportedly survived the war and still stands today, now repurposed for commercial use, but occasionally visited by veterans and historians.
