The 97th Signal Battalion (often abbreviated as 97th Signal Bn) was first constituted in the U.S. Army during World War II, officially activated on 1 June 1941 at Camp Edwards, Massachusetts. Throughout the war, the unit provided critical communications support for Allied operations in the European Theater, participating in campaigns such as Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. After World War II, the battalion was inactivated and reactivated several times, supporting U.S. Army operations during the Cold War in Europe, particularly in Germany. The 97th Signal Battalion was recognized for its technical proficiency and adaptability, ensuring secure and reliable communications under challenging combat conditions until its final inactivation in 1993.
