The 933rd Missile Battalion B Battery 09 was an integral component of the United States Army’s air defense forces during the height of the Cold War. Activated in the late 1950s, the battalion was equipped with Nike-Hercules surface-to-air missiles, providing a critical shield against potential Soviet bomber attacks. Stationed at key locations throughout the continental U.S., B Battery 09 was responsible for maintaining round-the-clock operational readiness, conducting regular live-fire exercises and coordination with NORAD command. The battalion remained on alert until the deactivation of the Nike missile system in the late 1970s, after which its personnel and assets were reassigned or retired as air defense strategies evolved.
