The 91st Engineer Battalion was first constituted on 1 October 1933 in the Regular Army and was activated on 10 February 1941 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. During World War II, the battalion served with distinction in the Pacific Theater, participating in campaigns across New Guinea, Leyte, and Luzon, where it provided critical combat engineer support. Throughout its history, the 91st Engineer Battalion has been inactivated and reactivated several times, serving in various capacities including construction, combat support, and humanitarian missions.
