The 86th Engineer Battalion was first constituted on 1 October 1933 in the Regular Army. Activated on 1 May 1941 at Camp Bowie, Texas, the battalion served with distinction during World War II, participating in campaigns across the European Theater, including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. Renowned for its combat engineering capabilities, the unit constructed bridges, cleared minefields, and supported frontline troops throughout major offensives. After the war, the battalion underwent several activations and inactivations, continuing its legacy of engineering excellence in subsequent decades.
