The 861st Quartermaster (QM) Airborne unit was activated during World War II to provide essential logistical and supply support to airborne forces. Specializing in aerial delivery of supplies, equipment, and rations, the unit played a critical role during major airborne operations in the European Theater, including the Normandy invasion and Operation Market Garden. The 861st QM Airborne was trained in parachute and glider delivery techniques, enabling it to support frontline troops in fast-moving and challenging environments. After the war, the unit was inactivated, but its legacy endures as a vital component of airborne logistics history.
