The 85th Field Artillery was constituted in the U.S. Army during World War I and officially organized in 1918. Although it did not see combat during the First World War, the unit was reactivated and reorganized multiple times between the wars. During World War II, the 85th Field Artillery served as part of the larger divisional artillery, providing crucial fire support in several campaigns. The unit earned distinction for its effective artillery operations, contributing to the success of Allied forces in various theaters of the war. After the conflict, the 85th underwent further reorganization, eventually being inactivated as part of postwar drawdowns.
