The 69th Armor Battalion was constituted during World War II on 15 July 1940 as part of the U.S. Army’s armored forces. It saw its first combat in North Africa and later participated in the Sicily and Normandy campaigns, earning distinction for its role in the liberation of France. Throughout the Cold War, the battalion served in Germany as part of NATO deterrence and later deployed to the Middle East during Operation Desert Storm. In the 21st century, the 69th Armor Battalion has continued to serve with distinction in Iraq and Afghanistan, maintaining its legacy as a premier armored unit.
