I retired from the U.S. Army National Guard in 2016 after a fulfilling 21-year career. During those years, eight were on active duty, with assignments in Kentucky, Hawaii, and Texas. I also spent 13 years serving with various Army National Guard units across Arizona, North Carolina, Washington, D.C., and New Mexico. Two of the highlights were deploying to Iraq with the Arizona National Guard from 2003 to 2004 and attending President Obama's inauguration with the D.C. National Guard on January 20, 2009, as a member of his security team.
