The 632nd Heavy Equipment Maintenance (HEM) Company was a key support unit within the 79th Maintenance Battalion, providing critical repair and recovery services for armored vehicles and equipment. Activated during the Cold War era, the unit was stationed in Germany as part of U.S. Army Europe’s efforts to maintain readiness against potential Warsaw Pact aggression. Throughout its service, the 632nd HEM played an essential role during numerous field exercises and operations, ensuring frontline units remained fully operational. The company was eventually deactivated as part of post-Cold War restructuring and reductions in overseas forces, with many of its veterans continuing to serve in other capacities or retiring (ret).
