617th FAOBN

The 617th Field Artillery Observation Battalion (FAOBN) was activated during World War II to provide specialized artillery observation and target acquisition support to U.S. Army field units. Equipped with advanced radar, sound ranging, and survey equipment, the battalion played a critical role in detecting enemy artillery positions and directing counter-battery fire.
