The 601st Medical Company (Clearing), stationed at Fort Clayton, Panama, played a crucial role in providing medical support to U.S. military forces in the Panama Canal Zone. Activated during the Cold War era, the unit was responsible for emergency medical treatment, evacuation, and support operations across Central and South America. The 601st was notably active during Operation Just Cause in 1989, delivering frontline medical care to U.S. troops involved in the operation to depose Panamanian leader Manuel Noriega. Throughout its service, the unit maintained a reputation for rapid response and adaptability in diverse and challenging environments.
