The 5th Signal Command was a major United States Army signal unit activated in 1974 and headquartered in Germany. Its primary mission was to provide and manage tactical and strategic communications support for U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR) and NATO operations throughout the European theater. The unit played a critical role during the Cold War, ensuring secure and reliable communications across the continent and supporting operations such as REFORGER and various peacekeeping missions in the Balkans. The command continued its service into the 21st century before being inactivated in 2017 as part of Army restructuring efforts.
