The 5th Aviation Detachment was an aviation unit of the United States Army, originally activated during the Vietnam War era. Its primary mission was to provide aerial support, including transport, reconnaissance, and logistical operations, for ground forces in various operational theaters. The detachment was equipped with rotary-wing aircraft such as UH-1 Hueys, which became iconic during its service. Over the years, the 5th Aviation Detachment supported multiple operations, earning recognition for its adaptability and dedication before eventually being inactivated as part of Army restructuring efforts.
