The 574th AAA (Anti-Aircraft Artillery) Automatic Weapons Battalion was a United States Army unit activated during World War II. The battalion was organized to provide mobile anti-aircraft defense, primarily using self-propelled automatic weapons such as the M16 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage. During the war, the 574th AAA AW Battalion served in the European Theater, supporting Allied ground forces by protecting them from enemy aircraft, particularly during key campaigns following the D-Day landings. After the war, the unit was inactivated as part of the postwar drawdown of U.S. military forces.
