The 550th Field Artillery Battalion (550th FA) was activated during World War II as part of the United States Army. Initially organized in 1942, the unit provided crucial artillery support for Allied ground operations in the European Theater. The 550th FA participated in several major campaigns, including the Normandy invasion and the advance across France and into Germany. After the war, the battalion was deactivated as part of the Army’s postwar drawdown, but its legacy of service and combat effectiveness remains recognized in military history.
