I began college after graduating high school in 1987. Due to my lack of motivation and discipline, my parents gave me an ultimatum. They told me that they were not going to pay for me to go to school and party. I was given a choice-straighten up and get serious or find a job. I chose the US Army Reserves in 1988. I decided I wanted to be a 95B Military Police as my MOS like my father. I spent one year in the US Army Reserves in Hammond, LA including OSUT (Basic and AIT-One Station Unit Training). I then entered active duty and left for Heidelberg, Germany. In 1991, I came down on orders for Fort Meade, MD. My new husband came down on orders for White Sands, NM. We requested to be stationed together, so we ended up with orders for Fort Polk, LA. After leaving Germany, I spent a couple of months at Fort McClellan, AL at US Army Military Police Investigator School. I reported to Fort Polk, LA following school. After my son’s birth, I decided to complete my Active Duty Contract and then go back to college. I entered the LA National Guard in Chalmette, LA where I served until 1996. I completed a total of eight years-one year in the Reserves, four years Active Duty, and three years in the National Guard.
