The 509th Maintenance Group is a key component of the 509th Bomb Wing, based at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri. Its lineage dates back to World War II, supporting the historic 509th Composite Group, which executed the atomic bomb missions over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Over the decades, the unit evolved to provide comprehensive maintenance and logistical support for advanced bomber aircraft, including the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber. Today, the 509th Maintenance Group ensures the operational readiness and combat effectiveness of the Air Force’s premier stealth bomber fleet, playing a vital role in U.S. strategic deterrence.
