The 501st Combat Electronic Warfare Intelligence (CEWI) Battalion was activated in 1981 at Fort Hood, Texas, as part of the U.S. Army's effort to modernize its battlefield intelligence capabilities during the Cold War. The unit's mission focused on providing electronic warfare, signals intelligence, and counterintelligence support to III Corps and subordinate units. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, the 501st CEWI Battalion participated in numerous training exercises and deployments, honing its ability to intercept and analyze enemy communications and electronic emissions. In 1995, the battalion was reorganized and redesignated, reflecting the evolving nature of military intelligence and advances in technology.
