The 500th Ordnance Detachment (Direct Support Unit), known as DSU, was a specialized unit within the United States Army Reserve assigned to USARSEVEN (United States Army Reserve Seventh Army) in Europe. Activated during the Cold War era, its primary mission was to provide direct ordnance support, including maintenance and supply of munitions and equipment, to U.S. and allied forces stationed in Germany. The unit played a crucial role in logistical operations, ensuring combat readiness and effective sustainment for front-line units. Throughout its service, the 500th Ord Det DSU participated in numerous training exercises and supported NATO defense initiatives until its eventual deactivation as part of force restructuring in the post-Cold War period.
