The 49th Army Band is a distinguished military music unit of the Alaska Army National Guard, originally constituted in 1947 as the 186th Army Band. Over the decades, the band has provided musical support for military ceremonies, community events, and official functions across Alaska and beyond, fostering esprit de corps and strengthening civil-military relations. Renamed the 49th Army Band in honor of Alaska’s status as the 49th state, the unit has performed in diverse venues, from remote Alaskan villages to national celebrations. Its members, drawn from across the state, serve as musical ambassadors, upholding military traditions and enhancing the morale of troops and civilians alike.
