**44th Separate Mechanized Brigade (44th SHMA) – Ukrainian Ground Forces** Formed in 2023 as part of Ukraine’s rapid expansion to counter Russia’s full-scale invasion, the 44th Separate Mechanized Brigade (SHMA) was established with a mix of experienced veterans and newly mobilized soldiers. Initially stationed in central Ukraine, the brigade was quickly deployed to reinforce critical sectors on the eastern front, participating in defensive operations and counteroffensives in the Donetsk region. The unit became known for its adaptability, integrating Western-supplied equipment and demonstrating effective combined-arms tactics.
