Activated in the late 1980s, the battalion has provided heavy-lift aviation support for a variety of missions, including combat, humanitarian, and logistical operations. The 4-159th has deployed in support of major U.S. military campaigns, such as Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, where it played critical roles in troop movement and resupply missions.
