3:9 Aviation

3rd Battalion, 9th Aviation Regiment (3-9 AVN), known as "Thunderhorse," is an aviation unit of the United States Army. Activated in 1996 under the 9th Aviation Regiment, the battalion has served as a critical component of the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division. 3-9 Aviation has provided air assault, reconnaissance, and support missions in major operations, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
