U.S. Army Veteran (1965 - 1967)
Drafted 14DEC65, assigned to Co. A, 5th Platoon, 3/22, 4th ID, - Train and retain, Ft. Lewis, WA. We were told you're in the 4th ID and you're going to Vietnam so take your training seriously. Basic and AIT with Cadre that was going with us. During AIT I was training on mortars for 5 weeks, received a Secret clearance and assigned to the Davy Crockett Tactical Nuclear Weapons System. Move to HHC Heavy Weapons Platoon. When the 4th ID was preparing for deployment to Vietnam, all tactical nuclear weapons in the Infantry and Artillery were left at Ft. Lewis. We remained there until July 1967, when our team on the Davy Crockett Tactical Nuclear Weapons System was transferred to the 82nd Airborne Division Artillery as the 56 Infantry Platoon, Ft Bragg, NC. After a couple of weeks, I was assigned to the Adjutant as a clerk. Their clerks had been deployed to Vietnam, and I had taken a high school typing course. I was separated from the Army on 14DEC67. I worked in Information Technology for 50+ years before retiring.
