3:227th Avn Bn

The 3rd Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment (3-227th Avn Bn) traces its lineage to the Vietnam War as part of the 227th Assault Helicopter Battalion, supporting the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). Reactivated and reorganized over the decades, the battalion became an integral part of the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, providing heavy lift and assault aviation support with CH-47 Chinook and UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. The 3-227th deployed in major operations including Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, earning multiple unit commendations for valor and excellence.
