The 307th Medical Battalion, assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, has a distinguished history of providing medical support to airborne operations. Originally constituted in 1917, the unit was reorganized and assigned to the 82nd Division during World War II, where it participated in major campaigns including Sicily, Normandy (D-Day), and the Battle of the Bulge. The 307th’s paratrooper medics became known for their courage, often dropping behind enemy lines to treat wounded soldiers under fire. Today, as part of the 82nd Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade, the 307th continues its legacy of rapid deployment and lifesaving care in support of global contingency operations.
