The 2nd Battery, 2nd Howitzer Battalion, 28th Artillery, traces its lineage to the historic 28th Field Artillery Regiment, which was constituted in the United States Army during World War I. Reactivated and reorganized multiple times, the battalion saw significant service during the Cold War era, providing direct artillery support to armored and infantry units in Europe as part of NATO’s forward defense strategy. The 2nd Battery specialized in delivering timely and accurate fire missions with self-propelled howitzers, enhancing the combat effectiveness of allied forces. Throughout its history, the unit earned commendations for its readiness and professionalism before being inactivated as part of Army restructuring in the late 20th century.
