The 2nd Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment is a unit of the Oklahoma Army National Guard with a distinguished history dating back to World War I. Originally organized in 1921, the regiment served with distinction in World War II as part of the 45th Infantry Division, participating in key campaigns in Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany. The 2-179th was federalized during the Korean War and has since taken part in numerous state and federal missions, including deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq in support of the Global War on Terrorism. Today, the battalion continues its legacy of service, providing trained and ready forces for both state and national missions.
