The 27th Maintenance Battalion was originally constituted on 1 May 1936 in the Regular Army as the 27th Quartermaster Regiment and later redesignated as the 27th Maintenance Battalion in 1949. It has played a critical role in providing maintenance and logistical support to U.S. Army units, especially during major conflicts such as World War II, the Korean War, and operations in Southwest Asia. The battalion has supported various divisions, most notably the 1st Cavalry Division, ensuring operational readiness of equipment and vehicles in both peacetime and combat environments. Throughout its history, the 27th Maintenance Battalion has earned numerous commendations for its exemplary service and adaptability in support of complex military operations.
